Yes yes and yes. And as Ladies-who-Launch’s resident bookworm, there are three titles I’m particularly excited to get my hands on this Christmas. Books have always been a staple on my list. Where micro-scooters, clip-on earrings and Blue albums have come and gone, books have remained. So Santa, if you’re reading this please make sure these super talented women make it into my stocking this year:
Need I say more? The women is an icon, goddamnit! Like everything the Michelle Obama puts her hand to, the former first lady’s memoir is set to be full of soul and substance. From her childhood in Chicago to her years in the White House, Becoming is intimate window into the life of one of today’s most influential women. Counting Dolly Alderton and Emma Gannon among her fans, I knew I’d be in good company reading Sally Rooney’s latest novel. The love story moves from rural Ireland to Dublin, following a simple yet profound relationship which unfolds over a number of years. Quiet yet complex with stunning writing, I think this one could become a new fiction favourite.
It pains me to admit I don’t already have this deliciously moving anthology from the ever-wonderful Rupi Kaur, but I’ve always read her poetry from a borrowed book, or within a few flicks of an Instagram feed. When I picked up the cloth-bound edition in Waterstones a few weeks ago and once again immersed myself in her mesmerising poetry, I knew I needed it for myself. To return to when I needed, to reread and relish.
Next week, we’ll be celebrating our readers favourite #LWLbookclub choice of 2018. Keep an eye on our Instagram Stories to vote for your favourite!
