THE BIG QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL TITLE?

CRM Coordinator

WHAT DO YOU DO ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?

I evaluate and execute M·A·C's CRM strategy with the aim of improving retention, acquisition and driving reactivation. We do this through our customer life cycle and loyalty programs - for me this is really exciting because my role has the ability to bring new dimensions to our rapidly evolving customer base.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?

First I wanted to be the tooth fairy and later on I wanted to be a vet.

WHAT ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

9 A* GCSEs and 3 A grade A-Levels in Politics, English and Theatre Studies. I also have a 2:1 degree in Politics from Newcastle University, my studies focused on humanitarian conflict and political theory.

WHAT’S THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

“Whenever you meet anybody, look for something nice to say about them, because even if they’ve got a hideous face they might have fantastic ankles or lovely hair, and compliments do cheer people up enormously.” - Jilly Cooper

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY?

My sister is a very intelligent woman, she has always done so well academically and I remember being very jealous when she was appointed Deputy Head Girl at our secondary school, City of London School for Girls. She studied medicine at university and during back breaking shifts as a junior hospital doctor, working long and tiring hours, she spent her free evenings working at a soup kitchen - serving meals to homeless men and women. She currently works at a hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone and does the most amazing job there caring for sick children. She recently supported a mother who gave birth to quadruplets, all girls, on international women's day!

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR CURRENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

I am lucky to work with a huge variety of people at a company founded by a very inspirational woman. Estee Lauder Companies brand portfolio is extensive and incorporates the likes of Jo Malone, Tom Ford, Bobby Brown, Creme De La Mer. This allows us to collaborate together in a very unique way so I get to learn a lot of new things each day. The company also founded the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer in 1992.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR DAILY WORK ROUTINE IF YOU COULD?

I would be able to bring Scarlet, my five year old Welsh Springer Spaniel, to work with me.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLY IN FIVE YEARS’ TIME?

I really enjoy my current role so I hope to take on more responsibility soon. I want to build confidence and expertise, influence decision making and work with my great colleagues to retain M·A·C's position as number one beauty brand! Perhaps more of a 10 year plan but I have lived in North London my whole life and one day would like to move somewhere more quiet - I have dreams of running my own floristry business.

DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN BE THE SAME PERSON AT WORK AND IN PRIVATE?

I tend to be a little more professional in the office.

WHERE AND IN WHAT ROLES ARE WOMEN IN THE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE AT YOUR COMPANY?

My favourite thing about Estee Lauder Companies is that it has an incredibly strong female work force, the majority of Directors in my brand are women and our General Manager is also the mother of two children.

DOES DIVERSITY MATTER TO YOU?

It matters hugely, yes. Here at M·A·C, our mantra is "All Ages, All Races, All Sexes" and this distinguishes us from every single different beauty brand. It's in our blood! Whether it's product based (we have more than 50 foundation shades) or some of the amazing philanthropic activity the brand does. Did you know that when you buy a VIVA GLAM Lipstick or Lipglass, 100% of the RRP goes to helping women, men and children affected by HIV/AIDS via the M·A·C Aids Fund?

HOW GOOD IS YOUR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

I have a great work life balance and this is promoted in my work place. I can't perform my best at work if I don't have enough time out to see my family, friends, girlfriend & dog during the weekends and evenings.

WHAT QUALITIES DOES BEING IN YOUR ROLE NECESSITATE?

Being proactive allows me to stay on top of market changes and trends, being logical and strategic means I am comfortable dealing with data and being creative ensures high level engagement with our customers, through thought provoking campaigns.

ANY FINAL COMMENTS?

Today I am really proud of my girlfriend for being offered an amazing job at an exciting company. She moved to London from Copenhagen almost two years ago, during her final year of university. Since graduating she has worked very hard applying for jobs constantly, whilst working antisocial hours at a media monitoring firm. That feeling of landing your first proper job is great and it's so nice for me to share in that with her!
